5th Street Social

Saturday, August 11, 2018

Celebrate the end of summer with music, food, children’s activities, classic car show and shine, an ice cream social, and local brews at Coralville’s 5th Street Social on Saturday, August 11.

Music, Food, Brews, & Activities
Enjoy music and activities on 5th Street between 6th and 12th Avenues on Saturday, August 11:
  • Kids’ Zone, 4:00-8:00 pm: Free fun for kids, including bounce houses and craft activities.  Get your face painted for a  good cause by donating to the University of Iowa Children's Dance Marathon.
  • Fun for Everyone: Giant Jenga, Giant Tic Tac Toe, Bags games, and be a chalk artist at the Chalk It Up area.
  • Food Trucks, Starting at 4:00 pm: Buy a bite to eat from a local vendor.  We are excited to have Mosley's Barbeque, The Boxed Lunch Truck, Moy's Taco Truck, and Marco's Grilled Cheese.
  • Live Music, 4:00-10:00 pm: Let's get to rockin' right on 5th Street with live music all night long. At 4:00 pm, Plastic Relations will provide a start to the night of lighthearted fun as they recycle all of your favorite good-vibe, jukebox music from the 60's to now.

At 6:00 pm, we welcome James Tutson and the Rollback, a local singer/song writer from Iowa City.  His style is a combination of the gospel and soul he grew up singing, the folk music of his early songwriter influences, and now, with his band, a little splash of rock. At 8:00 pm, New Trick loves to rock and they'll play all the 70's and 80's classic rock hits.   They are high energy and love a crowd that is ready to sing and dance!

  • Beverage Garden, 4:00-10:00 pm:  A three block area is enclosed as a beverage garden, featuring craft beer for $5 for a 12 ounce cup from four Johnson County craft breweries (Backpocket Brewing, Big Grove Brewery, ReUnion Brewery, and Sutliff Cider). Cups are purchased for $5 and IDs checked. Cash only. Due to state law, alcoholic beverages must remain in the beverage garden.
  • Classy Chassy Cruisers Show N Shine, 4:00-8:00 p.m.:   In the 1950's, 60's, and 70's, a street dance would happen right on Historic Route 6, now 5th Street.  We're bringing those classic cars to the event that showed up then full of poodle skirts, leather jackets, and people ready to jump and jive.  See all these classic cars parked on 5th Street beginning at 9th Avenue and extending to 12th Avenue.
