City of Coralville Indoor Facilities Offer Programs & Warmth

City Facilities

The City of Coralville offers several public facilities where residents can warm up when outdoor temperatures dip down:    

Coralville Public Library 

  • 1401 5th Street, 319.248.1850,
  • Hours: Monday through Thursday from 10:00 am until 8:30 pm; Friday from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm; Saturday from 9:00 am until 4:30 pm; Sunday from noon until 4:00 pm
  • Note: the Library is scheduled to be closed on Monday, December 19 for long-range planning
  • The Library offers a variety of services, programs, and materials for all ages including reading programs, book discussions, and more

Coralville Recreation Center

  • 1506 8th Street, 319.248.1750
  • Hours: Monday through Friday from 7:00 am until 9:00 pm; Saturday from 8:00 am until 9:00 pm; Sunday from noon until 9:00 pm
  • The Recreation Center offers a number of indoor recreational opportunities and programs

Coralville Indoor Pool

  • 1506 8th Street, 319.248.1750
  • Hours: visit
  • Admission: $3.75 per person; free admission for children under the age of two.

Holiday hours may vary.

Area Shelters

If your home is not heated, go to the home of a friend or family member, or go to a local shelter:

  • Shelter House is Johnson County’s general use homeless shelter located at 429 Southgate Avenue in Iowa City.
  • The Winter Emergency Shelter offers minimal overnight accommodations from mid-December until mid-March for individuals unable or unwilling to stay at Shelter House. Beginning December 12, the shelter will be temporarily located in Zion Lutheran Church at 310 N. Johnson Street in Iowa City. It is anticipated that beginning approximately the third week in December, the shelter will operate in the former Unitarian Universalist Society Church building at 10 S. Gilbert Street in Iowa City for the remainder of the winter.
