Tommy James and the Shondells will headline Coralville’s free concert in S.T. Morrison Park on Monday evening, July 3, as part of the 2017 4thFest celebration.
The road to stardom for Tommy James began when his song “Hanky Panky” became the summer smash success of 1966 and his first million-seller. Today, with a music career that spans over 50 years, his legendary hits include “Crystal Blue Persuasion,” “I Think We’re Alone Now,” “Crimson and Clover,” “Draggin’ the Line,” “Mony, Mony,” and “Sweet Cherry Wine.” With 23 gold records, 9 platinum albums, and over 100 million records sold worldwide—in addition to his 32 Billboard Hot 100 charting hits—many songs have been covered by artists around the world including Bruce Springsteen, Prince, R.E.M., Joan Jett and The Blackhearts, Billy Idol, Dolly Parton, Carlos Santana, and the Boston Pops. His music has been featured in national ad campaigns and prominent placements in movie and television soundtracks.
The annual free 4thFest concert takes place on the evening of July 3 in Coralville’s S.T. Morrison Park. Tommy James takes the stage at 8:00 pm, preceded by an opening band at 6:30 pm. The concert is one of many long-standing Coralville Independence Day traditions, which include a parade, carnival, and fireworks. To learn more about 4thFest, visit www.coralville.org/4thFest.
