Weather permitting, 1st Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction between 6th Street and E. 7th Street on Tuesday, May 30th, from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm. The lane reduction is needed to confirm the location of underground utilities crossing 1st Avenue. The southbound 1st Avenue lane closure will be reinstalled that evening after the exploration work is complete.
About the Duct Bank Project
Construction of the 1st Avenue Duct Bank Project from 6th Street to 9th Street began on May 18. The project will install a duct bank (multiple utility conduits within an underground corridor) to allow overhead and underground utilities to relocate into the duct bank before reconstruction of this same segment of 1st Avenue begins in March/April 2018.
A single lane closure in one direction will be in place each week on 1st Avenue, from 9:00 am on Monday until 3:00 pm on Friday, for the duration of the duct bank project. Construction should be complete by September 1, 2017. Sidewalk access will be maintained along 1st Avenue. Access to businesses within the project corridor will be maintained at all times.
