The Iowa City/Coralville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, City of Coralville, and UI Athletics are pleased to announce plans for the 2017 FRYfest presented by MidWestOne Bank. As a “Celebration of all that is Hawkeye,” FRYfest is calling this year a “Hawkeye Hoop Salute” with basketball greats from the Hayden Fry’s era, especially members of the men’s 1980 and women’s 1993 Final Four teams.

2017 marks the ninth year of FRYfest and will take place on September 1, 2017, the day before the Hawkeyes take on the Wyoming Cowboys. FRYfest is a full day of activities, bringing all Hawkeye nation together to kick off the first home football game of the season. Returning classics to FRYfest include vendors in the World’s Largest Hawkeye Tradeshow, panel discussions and autograph sessions, the Hawkeye pep rally, and the “High Porch Block Party” which includes the kids zone, bags tournament, concert, and back by popular demand, the grand finale with fireworks.

A “high porch picnic” is a Texas expression for “an exceptionally good time.” The High Porch Block Party is a nod to Coach Fry’s glorious career as one of college football’s most unique coaches, on and off the field.

The outdoor concert will be headlined by Arch Allies and opening band Pork Tornadoes. Arch Allies is a timeless tribute band, highlighting the hits of Bon Jovi, Journey, REO Speedwagon, and Styx -- making classic rock sing alongs with dynamic vocals, huge guitars, dashing keyboards, and powerful drums. This tribute band is making waves as the national touring tribute show in North America. They have performed from Florida to Washington state and from Mexico to Canada.  Tickets are on sale for $5 beginning Tuesday, May 30, at Coralville HyVee (1914 8th Street), MidWestOne locations, Coralville City Hall (1512 7th Street), and the Iowa City/Coralville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau (900 1st Avenue).

All events take place in and around the Coralville Marriott Hotel and Conference Center in Coralville’s Iowa River Landing.
