Host a Neighborhood Block Party on August 1 for National Night Out

Whether you know your neighbors or not, National Night Out is one night a year for neighbors to connect while strengthening ties with local law enforcement. On Tuesday evening, August 1, 2017, all Coralville neighborhoods are invited to take part in the 34th annual National Night Out.

The Coralville Police Department invites neighborhoods to get together and host block parties on August 1. The block parties give neighbors a chance to meet through simple potlucks, backyard barbeques, driveway dinners, or neighborhood events with music or kids’ activities. Neighborhoods can host a party in a way that best suits their neighborhood. Representatives from the Coralville Police Department, Fire Department, and City Council will visit as many registered parties as they can.

National Night Out is an evening for neighbors to connect and communicate a message of unity between neighbors and police. Stronger neighborhood ties can build community partnerships and create watchful eyes in neighborhoods, which help to promote crime prevention. Millions of people and thousands of communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and military bases are expected to participate worldwide on August 1.

Neighborhoods can register their block parties, get more information about National Night Out, and see planning tips at Registrations should be submitted by July 28, 2017. For more information, contact the Coralville Police Department at 319.248.1800.
