Homeowners can apply for reimbursement for up to 50% of the costs for soil quality restoration
Would you like to grow a greener lawn with fewer chemicals? The City of Coralville is offering Coralville homeowners reimbursement for 50% of the costs, up to $2,000, for soil quality restoration through the Your Best Lawn program.
Your Best Lawn is a partnership between the cities of Coralville, Iowa City, and North Liberty, and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
Soil quality restoration can improve soil health and reduce stormwater runoff. First, deep tine aeration, which requires specialized equipment, creates macro-pores in the soil with tines longer than four inches. This provides deep drainage, breaks through soil layers, and allows grass to form deeper roots. Then, a layer of compost is spread over the top as a soil quality restoration recipe for yards to soak up more rain water, and builds a greener, sustainable lawn without chemicals.
Soil restoration projects can only be performed in the spring and fall, and enrollment is required before completing the work. Funding is limited and is available on a first come, first served basis. For more information and a list of participating contractors, and to apply, visit www.coralville.org/YourBestLawn or contact Amy Foster, Stormwater Coordinator, at 319.248.1720.
