Reconstruction of the 1st Avenue Bridge over Clear Creek began the last week of March and will last through the end of the year. Traffic on 1st Avenue is reduced to one lane in each direction immediately north and south of the bridge and will be for the duration of this project. The west half of the bridge deck is being demolished to make way for the new construction. The new bridge will have five traffic lanes, ten foot wide sidewalks on both sides, and a ten foot wide trail underneath the bridge on the north side of Clear Creek. The new five lanes are expected to be open by the end of 2010.

Weekly project meetings will be held each Thursday at 1:30 pm in the Building and Engineering Department at Coralville City Hall. The contractor, consultants, and City staff will be present. The public is invited to attend at the beginning of the meeting to discuss project schedule and coordination issues.
