Environmental Protection Agency Grants
Since the beginning of the Coralville Brownfields Program in 1998, Coralville has received nine
United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) grants totaling more than $2.2 million. These grants have helped to dispel fears of widespread environmental contamination in the Iowa River Landing Revitalization Area and identified the small number of properties that are in need of remediation.
Coralville's two most recent brownfields grants, awarded by the EPA Brownfields Program in 2013, total $382,000. These grants are for continued testing for hazardous and petroleum contamination throughout Coralville. The City is currently focusing on the 1st Avenue corridor as well as the Highway 6 / 1st Avenue / Clear Creek area. Grants continue the work of the Brownfields Program by funding hazardous substance and petroleum environmental site assessments, community outreach activities, program management, and an electronic brownfields property database.
