Program Features

Quality Training

The Coralville Fire Department takes pride in the quality training we provide our members. Coralville’s career and volunteer firefighters work hard to provide professional fire protection. Our training program features a state-of-the-art training facility and classroom. We have a full-time training officer and send personnel to area and regional training on request. 

Minimum Requirements

Every member of the Coralville Fire Department must meet minimum requirements to respond to calls. New recruits are required to train a minimum of 240 hours the first year of membership through Coralville’s Fire Academy, and Fire Department members participate in monthly training designed to maintain skills. 

Fire Training 

Training Process

The Coralville Fire Department trains once a month on different firefighting topics, including search and rescue, ventilation, fire attack, and ladders. The training is designed to meets the Iowa minimum training standards. 

Members also participate in monthly driver and pump training.


EMS Training 

EMT Certification

Members of the Coralville Fire Department are required to be certified EMT. The Department assists the Coralville Police Department on medical calls in the City limits when needed and responds to medical emergencies in North East Lucas Township. 

The Coralville Fire Department conducts EMS training designed to meet the minimum continuing education requirements for the Iowa EMT certification. 

EMS training includes CPR, blood borne pathogens, patient assessment, and a wide variety of other topics.
