The City of Coralville awarded Coralville resident, Les
Cullers, the first ever Brown Deer Golf Club Gold Medal of Service Award at the
November 13 Council meeting. This award will be given to a volunteer who has helped promote and fulfill the mission of providing a high quality golf experience at Brown Deer. Cullers has helped to build a successful
senior golf league over the past thirteen years at Brown Deer Golf Club. He has organized and communicated with
players to create golf pairs every Monday and Thursday throughout the golf
season. The Brown Deer Senior League
averaged sixty players per day in 2018 which translates to approximately 3,000
rounds of golf this year that Cullers has helped to coordinate. Over the course of Cullers’ involvement,
Brown Deer staff estimates he has helped bring over 24,000 rounds of play to
Brown Deer Golf Club. “Volunteers like these
really help increase participation satisfaction in our golf leagues”, said
Brown Deer Assistant Golf Pro, Brian Wernimont. Les and his wife, Nancy, have lived in
Coralville since 1960.
