The City of Coralville Water Department will flush fire hydrants throughout Coralville starting in early October. Crews will begin south of Interstate 80, working from east to west, starting on October 1. Hydrant flushing is expected to last until mid-November, weather permitting.
As a result of hydrant flushing, residents in the vicinity may notice water running down the street, or a temporary discoloration of their water which does not affect the water safety. In the event of discolored water, run cold water from a faucet until the water clears.
Hydrant flushing is an annual water system maintenance practice that moves water through the pipelines fast enough to remove sediment, and allows the City to service fire hydrants and check water pressure. For more information, please contact the Coralville Water Department at 319.248.1770 or the Utility Billing Department at 319.248.1715.
Flushing status: The week of October 19, crews are flushing hydrants in the area fron 2nd Street to 10th Street between 12th Avenue to 25th Avenue.
