New recycling center center offers convenient, indoor location

The Coralville Drive-In Recycling Center is moving to a convenient, new location with indoor space for sorting materials. Beginning Monday, April 10, Coralville residents can drop off recyclable items at 212 1st Street. The Recycling Center will be open from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday, and from 8:00 am to noon on Saturday.

Acceptable items include paper, plastics #1, 2, and 5; aluminum and tin, flattened cardboard, and glass.

The existing Recycling Center on Hughes Street will close at 7:00 am on April 10.

Location
Access the new Recycling Center by traveling west on 1st Street from 1st Avenue south of Highway 6/2nd Street (see map at bottom).

Recyclable Items
The following items are recyclable at home in your curbside container and at the Recycling Center:

  • Paper: chipboard, envelopes (remove plastic windows), junk mail, magazines, newspaper, newsprint, paper, phone books
  • Plastic: containers #1, 2, and #5, juice bottles, milk jugs, soda/pop bottles
  • Aluminum and Tin: food cans, aluminum foil
  • Corrugated Cardboard

There are five types of bins for sorting at the Recycling Center. Follow the labels on the bins.

  • Paper goes in one bin
  • Plastic goes in one bin
  • Aluminum/tin goes in one bin
  • Corrugated cardboard in a separate bin
  • Glass goes in the purple bin

Do not discard non-recyclables or trash at the Recycling Center.

Corrugated cardboard is banned from the landfill and must be recycled. Cardboard boxes must be flattened.

At home, using your curbside container, continue to sort recyclables into separate bags for paper, plastic, and aluminum/tin. Glass is not accepted for curbside recycling.
