The City of Coralville continues to celebrate the sesquicentennial of the city with various events throughout the year. On Sunday, June 11, 2023, take a walk down memory lane with the 8th Avenue History Walk.
“In the heart of Coralville is 8th Avenue, formerly known as Huston Avenue, that has a plethora of history that is too rich not to share!” exclaimed Rex Brandstatter, local historian and longtime Coralville resident.
Participants are asked to join the walk at the corner of 8th Avenue and 5th Street. The free tour will begin promptly at 1:15 pm and walk north about four blocks to finish at the north end of 8th Avenue with refreshments, seats, and shade. No registration is needed.
“You don’t know where you are going if you don’t know where you’ve been,” said Brandstatter, one of the event organizers. “Coralville has a fascinating history of reinventing itself.”
The history walk is part of a series of free community events held from October 2022 through October 2023 to celebrate Coralville's sesquicentennial; Coralville will celebrate its 150th anniversary on October 3, 2023.
