The City Council of the City of Coralville is accepting applications for appointments to the following Boards and Commissions:
Citizen’s Community Policing Advisory Board: (3) openings
The Citizen’s Community Policing Advisory Board's duties are to review complaints of profiling, discriminatory policing practices, and allegations of prohibitive disparate treatment made against any law enforcement officer filed with the Board; and to review below referenced data (City Code; CH 31.04.5) collected by the Police Department on an annual basis, to the extent said data is made available to the public. While the Board will not have jurisdiction to investigate or adjudicate violations of this ordinance, the Board shall educate the public about the complaint process, and shall offer to assist individuals with the preparation and filing of biased policing or racial profiling complaints with the Iowa Civil Rights Commission, and recommend training opportunities for the Police Department. Three openings are for 4-year terms expiring December 31, 2026. One opening is reserved for the LULAC Representative and can be filled by a current resident of Johnson County. Coralville Civil Service Commission: 1 opening
The Coralville Civil Service Commission exercises all the responsibilities and duties in accordance with the provisions of the Code of Iowa for Civil Service Commissions, this chapter and any policies, rules, or procedures adopted by the Civil Service Commission. (City Code, CH. 25). This Commission meets as needed. This opening is for a partial term expiring December 31, 2026. About the Civil Service Commission
Planning & Zoning Commission: 1 opening
The Planning and Zoning Commission reviews and comments on Street, Park, or Public Improvements as well as plans, plats, and re-plats of subdivisions or re-subdivisions in or around the City limits. The Commission shall send its recommendations to the Council before there is a vote on these issues. It exercises all powers, duties, and privileges in establishing the City Zoning Regulations and other related matters. (Code Book; CH. 23). Meetings are the first Wednesday of the month at 6:00 pm. - Any current resident of Coralville is eligible and encouraged to apply for any Board and Commission openings.
- LULAC may appoint any current resident of Johnson County for one Citizen's Community Policing Advisory Board opening.
- Diversity, equity, and inclusion will be considered as applications are reviewed.
